“Acephale”
In 2009 I worked in the Amsterdam studio that was a former whorehouse and in the morning I drew this series of 32 small drawings by looking in the whoremirror. To see me naked in the whoremirror was an erotic experience in the perfect solitude of that studio. It merged well with the traumatic experiences from my childhood that I was depicting in my series *Burnt Home*. Eroticism and death were interwoven in my childhood: as a neat acolyte I brought two little brothers to the graveyard within a month and at the same time I touched my genitals to work off my stress. My schoolteacher was concerned about my aberration. Later a boy next door told me that he called me as a little boy “the flypuller”.
The title of this series Acéphale means “having no head or chief” and refers to the totality of Bataille’s thought, which embodies the figure of the Acéphale as drawn by André masson and the secret society of Acéphale.
The text in *Burnt Home 3* “as I approached the pleasure point” is a sort of a quotation from *Guilty* by Bataille.
